My name is joe Perry. I was a gunners mate (GMG2), gun mount captain aboard the USS Henry B. Wilson during the Mayaguez operations. Also involved in recovery of Marines stranded off beach due to heavy automatic fire from Kymer Rouge positions. I had a small cassette recorder with me during the operations and still have two old tapes that include much of the sounds, communication transmissions, etc.

JPAC is not and should not guess on the ID untill they do the DNA testing. Too much is at stake for the families of those still MIA. Pray for them and a fast ID so we can properly re-unite them with their family and put them to rest properly.
I found this site by accident. I was stationed in Thailand during the Mayaguez Incident. We were ordered to support the operation. I relayed messages between the Marines on Koh Tang to the OV-10 controller and air support so that they could get off the island. I remember drawing a map of the area where the marines were (based on the description given to me by the marines on the ground) and relaying the information to the air controller. I will always remember that day.

Web Host note: Thanks for your service and help that day. We could use all the help we could get! Sepmer Fi
