well I think we should get close to the wall. the reason is that it has been 40 years since we lost 41 of our brothers and would honor them if we visit them on the 40th ann. but that is my opinion

Hi guys,

I had the opportunity to read The Last Battle a few years ago and find it to be the most poignant and desperately sad account of any military operation I have ever read.

I lived as a dependent near U-Tapao from 1973 to 1974, joined the Marines in 1985 and later became a U.S. merchant marine chief engineer. Coincidence and irony have therefore given me the opportunity to get some perspective on many aspects of this little piece of our history.

I have ordered every other book on this topic I can find on Amazon and look forward to learning more. Thank you for your dedication to keeping this story alive.

Semper Fi, Brothers!
I was a member of 3/9 and arrived at Camp Schwaab in November, 1975. Still recall running past a 2/9 formation and feeling total respect and awe for what you experienced. Thank you!

One question though...Why were there not USMC rotors, 53's and 46's, involved in this operation? I always assumed that it was because of the Saigon evac., but not sure.

** Kevin, you are correct, it was because of the Saigon evac.. The USMC rotors were thousands of miles away. **
Thank you for your serve as well and for leaving a message in our Guest Book.

I just found your website. My father, Juan P. Sanchez was a crew member on the Mayaguez when she was taken. He has since passed on. He always spoke most highly of the efforts of the units involved in the rescue of the crew and himself; he also was deeply grateful to those who lost their lives or were wounded in the effort. On behalf of my father and his family, I wish to again express his gratitude towards those who served. Thank you for your service.

I just want to say thank you to all of you for your caring for our family. We miss Bob so much. The funeral service was amazing. Many thanks to Fred, Al Mahan, Leon and Tim Trebil for coming to the service. Thank you for giving Bob the vest at the reunion. He looked great in the casket with his vest on. We are truly blessed with all of you as friends.
We now have 13 that have said they would be returning to Cambodia for our 40th anniversary next May 15, 2015. That included three wives at this time. Like to get that number to about 20. John Muller, who is organizing the trip from there has a great time for all of us who will be going. If you have questions, please contact me.
