My husband, Staff Sgt Millar of I think the 2/9 Marines was there. He has talked little about it except for a conversation he had with a younger man as they were sailing in. I think he would like to hear from people who knew him. He is Steve Millar originally from South Dakota and came out of Okinawa, he would have been 23 at the time, and his third time in.

Was on the US Navy P-3 that found the ship took heavy fire and was hit in the tail, They tried to shot us down with 50 cal. rounds. We knew shit was bad when JCS told us to turn around remain on station until further notice as long as the plane was flyable. Anyway nice to find this site would like to meet with you guys someday. seen the photos ron "virgil" Quinlan posted on here. brought back memories of the old shipmates on them stinking hot days over there aboard the DE1074 happy harry. gittin drunk in PI and hopping in a jeepy heading in the oppisite direction of the base, lots of fun in them small towns around Olongapo city PI . DAMN TIMES HAVE CHANGED...
