It is with great sorrow that I announce the passing of my Father, Nevlyn O’Neal (Tink) Prothro, at age 89, in Tulsa OK. During World War II he was assigned to Co. A, 350th Infantry Regt, 5th US Army, with Gen. Mark Clark, Commanding 5th US Army Group. He served in North Africa, from Operation Torch all the way through the Italian campaign, including Monte Cassino, and the controversial rush to Rome. Tink started out as a buck Private and ended the war with a battle-field commission to Temporary Captain working in Regimental Operations (S3). He was reverted to Warrant Officer after VE. Dad was the recipient of the Bronze Star for valor at Monte Cassino. Actually, my younger brother (now deceased) was named Mark in honor to Gen. Clark. So, you see, I was destined to be a lifer, even though Dad only did nine years from 1942 to 1951. When Korea broke out he was offered another temporary commission, but he opted to resign instead. He had always told me that he had fought WWII, now the young guys can fight in Korea. As you can tell, he had always been my hero.

Tonight, I'm deeply saddened to have found out my Commanding Officer, James H. Davis has passed away. I was honored to have server with "Jim" when I returned from Vietnam in late 1969. I believe it was 1970 when Jim became Kilo Company's, 3/6, 2nd MarDiv Commanding Officer. Jim was a true leader in every respect. Although I was only a Lance Corporal, recovering from injuries, Jim and GySgt Weets, both took me under their wings. Once recovered I was assigned as Jim's radio operator until I reenlisted for aviation training. I have so many great memories of serving with Lt. Col. Davis. God Bless You Always Jim, God Bless You Always

My heart is heavy after reading this story, I served in Udorn Air Base as an jet engine mechanic in 69-70. After leaving the USAF in 1972, i tried not to pay attention to this war for a while thus i never realy knew the story fully about Kohtang. Bless all of you for your sacrifice. Thank You

:-(
It saddens me to hear of Captain Davis' demise. Surely he is now flying the heavens next to God and watching over all us. My deepest condolences to his family. God speed the healing and may he rest in peace.
Most recent information on this subject. Interesting in that the perpetrator/defendant contends that “…knowingly false statements are protected by the First Amendment.”
