I was a corpsman on the USS Coral Sea during the Mayaquez Incident. We were in route to Australia for a PR visit when we got a report that a US civilian ship had been captured off the coast of Cambodia. We turned the ship around and headed to Cambodia. We were given no further information. The next evening, without our knowing, we started receiving USAF HH53 helicopters coming in with marine causalities. I was on the flight deck aid station at the time when the helicopters landed... I remember many wounded coming in from the helicopters... I remember a marine officer (captain I believe) frantically saying... "WHERE IS (name of one of his men) (don't recall the name)!!!" over and over again, saying he can't find one of his men. Another young officer kept saying... "It was horrible... it was horrible!!" over and over again and was shaking in panic. Many of the marines were just staring in space not saying anything, obviously traumatized. Everything was so disorganized... One of my jobs then that I fell into was to triage and get names of the marines and their extent of injuries... which also gave me the job of calming them down... reminding them that the are now safe on the USS Coral Sea.

Hello, I am the daughter of marine Brian J. Crothers. I am trying to find the book on this battle. If anyone could help me with how I can get ahold of a copy I would greatly appreciate it.

To all the veterans who came home, thank you. To the families of the men who did not return, God bless you. I just read Ralph Wetterhahn's book and was moved by the bravery of all involved. To our Air Force and Navy brothers, and to my fellow Marines, I say, Semper Fidelis!

To Allen Bailey,

It was my pleasure to help you and your wife while you were experiencing a flat tire on your travel trailer during your trip through North Carolina on Highway 64 east of Rocky Mount. Thanks again for your service to our county.

Sincerely, Dan

Wife - Phyllis and I are figuring out travel plans. I am looking into AMC Space "A" travel and a rent a car when we arrive. Our intentions are to be in Arizona around 8-12 November. Shout to the Bailey's for their hospitality 14 May at their POS in Maryland.
Fratres Aeterni,
Scott
