I was on the Coral Sea during the Mayaguez incident. There was not enough empty racks for all the Marines so we hot racked with them. One of the marines would sleep in my rack during my 12 hours on duty. One of the marines gave me some of Cambodian money they took off the island.
/** Brother, all the US Marines that were on Koh Tang that day know that the Coral Sea was vital to our survival. Thanks for being there and sharing your bunk. Call one of the board members so we can get your contact information. Look forward to talking and meeting you at our next reunion.

Great website. I was attached to Golf 2/9 for a short period-I remember being out in the field and then being called back to Camp Swab in the middle of the night. Gunny Mac said what we leave behind burn. We had a nice fire going when the 6 bys came and got us. When we were loading back up in the trucks to Kadena,I received orders from one of the Officers and he said you are not going someone must be watching out for you. To this day I don't know who it was. I was sent down to Camp Courtney BAS after everyone got back. Thanks to all for your service.

I am the Commandant of the Old Breed Detachment Marine Corps League in Glendale, Az. One of our members is Mayaguez veteran Jeff Kern. He is quite the Marine and an asset to our Detachment. Jeff is suffering from Lou Gehrig Disease and has bad days but he has a hell of an attitude. I am a Vietnam Vet so know what Jeff went through. Semper Fi. If anyone wants to get in touch with Jeff, just send me an e-mail.

I had the honor and privilege to share some stories and share a few drinks with you men and women last night in Indianapolis. Just the company and presence of you all was what is great about being American and I look forward to many more meetings and times to share some of your stories in the future. PFC Maxwell had some good company that day and I am honored to have heard his story and toast to his return. Thanks again for all that you all do and did for my family to sleep safe at night !!!!!!

Greetin's All - Real World
I've come to realize that, this site, in no small way has directly opened a lot of people’s eyes. That the fighting in Southeast Asia was not over in 1969 as so many claim. The end of that long war was over only after the SS Mayaguez Operation, those who feel otherwise need only to look at the Wall. The people who were there gave they're all and were never the reason that things went the way it did. Because of all the work, many have been able to talk to and see our Brothers that none of us ever thought would be possible. It's a lot more than just that. They've changed the masse's outlook also on this topic, which never would've happened without their hard work and long nights. CON’T to next message |

Look at the books that have come out and films. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if the Operation is made into a movie at a later date. The ones who have made all this have done so without asking for any help, the calls, the travel and so very much more has come straight out of their pockets and donations. I think it's time all of us donate some funds so they can keep this going and improving. They shouldn't bare the burden themselves after giving so much. I for one have been able to find some of my close friends from 2/9 thanks to all of their hard work. We’re not getting any younger people. Semper-Fi, R VanderMolen H&S 2/9 81's 1975 |
