Bury me with Soldiers
I've played a lot of roles in life; I've met a lot of men. I've done some things I'd like to think I wouldn't do again. And though I'm young, I'm old enough. To know some day I'll die, And to think about what lies beyond, and beside whom I may lie. Perhaps it doesn't matter much; Still, if I had my choice, I'd want a grave 'mongst soldiers when At last death quells my voice. I'm sick of the hipocrisy, Of lectures of "the wise," I'll take the man, with all the flaws, Who goes, though scared, and dies. The troops I knew were commonplace They didn't want the war; They fought because their fathers and their fathers had before. They cursed and killed and wept... God knows They're easy to deride -- But bury me with men like these; Who faced the guns and died. It's funny when you think of it, The way we got along. We'd come from different worlds to live In one no one belongs. I didn't even like them all; I'm sure they'd all agree. Yet I would give my life for them, I know some did for me. So bury me with soldiers, please Though much maligned they be. Yes, bury me with soldiers for I miss their company. We'll not soon see their likes again; We've had our fill of war, But bury me with men like them Till someone else does more. - Author Unknown - |

Warriors,
November is here. Happy Birthday Marines! You all look pretty good for your age. Happy Veterans Day also, thank you all for your military service to our great nation. We are a band of brothers that nobody can break apart. To be fair, I also want to wish the other military services a happy birthday and that them to for their service to the U.S.A. We military all have a common bond; that we are willing to put our lives on the line for the protection of country. For those that gave the ultimate sacrifice, we remember you, your name, and your families. Fratres Aeterni, Scott |

Tex Eugene Duke and I are looking forward to attending the next reunion in Branson, MO. Neither of us have ever been to one of your reunions before.
I know Tex will be honored to stand with those of you he served with on this mission. I am so proud of each and everyone of you. I will consider it a GREAT PRIVILEDGE to be in the company of such brave and patriotic heroes. May God be with each and everyone of you for all eternity. - Jan Q. Koch |

I wrote this poem with love and gratitute for my personal hero,
Tex Eugene Duke, USMC Written by Jan Q. Koch, October 17, 2011 Thank You Vets and Soldiers As I lie here in my bed tonight all safe, and dry, and warm I'm reminded now of those who fight To keep us safe from harm They may be lying in a hole somewhere with the raindrops falling down In the cold and dark, they dream of home and pray not to be found For the enemy is closing in Their brave hearts start to pound They "dig in" and prepare to fight Right there, on foreign ground Do you understand their sacrifice? Have you ever stopped to care? Do you realize that what you have... is because those troops were there? They got the call, were proud to serve So that you and I could live It's time to give what they deserve Is "thanks" too much to give? |

I was at Utapo Air Base Thiland in 1975 and remember seeing a bunch of marines marching to our chow hall for lunch. I was sent to Guam with about 30 other airman to load B-52 to help with the rescue. Thank you for what you did and If you do go to Branson in 2012 I live about 6 hours away and it would be interesting to meet all of you.

I just left the USS Coral Sea reunion in St Louis where I met a Chief who told me of this site. Very well done. I served on the Coral Sea during 75 when this happened. He said you were going to have a reunion in Branson in 2012. Keep me posted, I should be able to make it.
Blessings to all Mike |
