well I just got done talking to mike hunter. he was very nice and a pleasure to talk to. I really do not know why it was so easy to talk to him, maybe because he is a vet and understands more then others. but I would like to say that thank you for telling our story

Koh Tang / Mayaguez Vets and Family Members, Thanks for your dedicated service to our Nation. I'm an Iraq War Army veteran and historian writing an article about the events of May 12-15, 1975. I've read several good (and some not so good) accounts of the events, but what I am interested in is how you all thought about the affair in relation to Vietnam. If anyone is interested in being interviewed - veteran or family member, please send an email to mh1747@georgetown.edu or call/text to (734) 770-7450. Looking forward to learning more about this sadly unknown chapter in American history. Sincerely, Mike Hunter (Major, U.S. Army)

I was on the USS Coral Sea CVA-43 during the rescue of the Mayaguez. Watched the action from the island seeing damaged copters land and corpsmen preforming triage. This came soon after we participated in the evac of Saigon so the experiences reinforced each other. Just what men can do to each other is incomprehensible unless you've seen the ugliness first hand.

Being the grand daughter of a Vietnam vet I have heard what the last 41 names were for. Thank you for putting faces to names! I have always asked questions about my grandfathers service. I don't get very many answers mostly, "well papa never talks about it much". I know what his job was and that is it! I have heard stories from my mother about the treatment of the soldiers returning home and have always been appalled! I know I can't make up for the things you have seen and the ways you have been treated just know I appreciate your service and I want to welcome you home. My daughter and I do Christmas cards every year and have taken cookies to our local Vietnam veterans chapter. If you could contact me with extra addresses we would love to include you all in our mailing list!

I was with Hotel 2/9 during the Mayguez operation. I was in Thailand as a reserve unit . I was a squad leader and was issued a .45 with one magazine and a m-79 with a broken sight. I didn't make it on to a helicopter but saw them leaving and returning with a huge hole in them. I don't know if I qualify as a veteran of the Mayguez club since I was in Thailand.I was wondering if any of the Hotel 2/9 group meets. I did go onto super squad competition with some of the people that earned medals from the operation.

Great site to show to the world this unfortunately little known battle. Gabe recommended the site after speaking to him about his experiences. I never knew about this battle either. Thank you to all the veterans who served and their families.
